Session

Multimodal, Conversational, and Decision Support Intelligence for Service and Industrial Robotics

Organized by:

Thursday 8 October 15.15

Lead organizer: Shifa Sulaiman, Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Electronic Systems, Aalborg University

Multimodal, conversational, and decision‑support AI are transforming service and industrial robotics. Advances in vision‑language models, tactile sensing, and electromyography enable intuitive and adaptive wearable robotic manipulation, while conversational AI improves task understanding, flexibility, and safety in industrial environments. Model‑based AI augmentation strengthens decision support through digital twins and probabilistic reasoning.

This session gathers Danish researchers and practitioners to explore shared challenges, ethical considerations, and collaborative opportunities across assistive robotics, industrial automation, and system‑level AI reasoning. Participants will gain insights into emerging multimodal integration trends and future research directions. The session encourages cross‑institutional collaboration and aims to inspire new research directions.

Programme

Welcome 5 minutes

Section 1 30 minutes

2 Presentations (10 minutes presentation + 5 minutes Q&A, per person)

Section 2 55 minutes

Group Activity: 30 minutes
Participants will be divided into small interdisciplinary groups (4 – 6 people per group) to share their experience and discuss the specific challenges in multimodal AI in their domains.

  • Each group will be assigned a facilitator (one of the organizers) and a note-taker (volunteer from the group).
  • Discussions will be guided by pre-defined questions prepared by organizers.
  • Groups will document key insights and share with all participants.

Group Presentations: 20 minutes

Each group will have 3 – 4 mins to present their ideas, insights, and identify common themes and potential collaborative opportunities.

Summarizing round: 5 minutes
Summarizing the key insights from the session and discussing potential follow-up activities and collaborations.
