Deep Dive workshop
Societal impact of AI
Wednesday 27 August 9.00
Organizer: Helene Friis Ratner, DTU – Technical University of Denmark
This session explores the societal impacts of artificial intelligence, with a focus on the newly established Center for AI in Society (CAISA). CAISA is a national, interdisciplinary consortium working in collaboration with the Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence. Its mission is to promote the responsible use of AI and to provide guidance on how democratic societies like Denmark can effectively develop and govern AI technologies.
The session introduces key themes such as digital sovereignty, the factuality of AI, and the potential for large-scale AI initiatives, such as the “Digital Assistent” moonshot project. It also addresses how AI is reshaping work, the private sector, and the relationship between citizens and the state. By covering both the promises and challenges of AI deployment, this session highlights some of the big questions we are facing today if we are to ensure human-centred AI that works for society.
The deep dive is organized into two sessions with a break.
Session 1: Big Questions for human-centred AI (50 minutes)
Break (10 minutes)
Session 2: Responsible AI for the public sector (55 minutes)
Break (10 minutes)
Session 3: Responsible AI for the private sector (55 minutes)
The target audience is any participant with an interest in the or working with AI and its societal impacts. Both conference participants engaged in AI development and those who do research in its societal implications, across the public and private sector, may find this session useful. We expect around 50 participants.
We expect participants to gain insights into the societal impacts of artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on how democratic values can shape its development and governance. They will learn about the role of the newly established Center for AI in Society (CAISA) and opportunities to collaborate. Participants will also gain knowledge about the opportunities and challenges AI poses to work, the private sector, and the relationship between citizens and the state.
