Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard is a Professor at Software Engineering Section at University of Southern Denmark, Vice Head of SDU Software Engineering and the Head of the Educational Programmes in Software Engineering and Software Technology.

Mikkel conducts research in the area of software engineering and ubiquitous computing with a specific focus on sensing systems, machine learning and user interaction. He conducts his research with an experimental foundation at the intersection of ubiquitous computing, machine learning and system research with applications within Internet of things, robotics and smart buildings.

He heads and participates in a number of research projects with a high level of industrial involvement and participate in the leadership of several large initiatives. Mikkel heads the software educations at SDU. As a vice head of SDU Software Engineering he leads the development of research activities.
