Workshop
Networks, data, society and AI
Tuesday 22 October 13.30
Organizer: Vedran Sekara, IT University of Copenhagen
The recent availability of large scale databases, coupled with computational techniques from mathematics, physics, statistics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence have opened new possibilities to study and understand social phenomena. In this session, we aim to unite researchers, policy makers, data scientists, and practitioners interested in using computational techniques and AI to understand and model various aspects of social systems.
This workshop brings together an interdisciplinary list of speakers which will talk about how they use various computational techniques to understand some of the biggest issues facing our societies today.
Our program includes short talks on cutting-edge research, and real-world applications. We have invited three speakers from different aspects of data science and AI who will present the benefits these technologies bring, and also critically outline and reflect on the limitations of using computational techniques for modeling social systems.
13:00 – 13:05: Welcome
13:05 – 13:25: Therese Moreau Hansen, Journalist, Version2 (TBC)
13:25 – 13:45: Associate Professor, Pantelis Pipergias Analytis, SDU
13:45 – 14:05: Olivier Corradi, CEO, Electricity Maps
14:05 – 14:30: Panel discussion and closing comments
The session is for practitioners, policy makers, and researchers with an interest in applying data science, computational social science, network science, and artificial intelligence techniques for understanding social phenomena. The level will be intermediate: attendees should have a basic understanding, or some experience with the subjects.
